About Me
Hi! My name is Tavleen Tarrant (she/her). I'm a 29-year-old Associate Social Newsgathering Reporter at NBC News in New York City. Before this, I was a news assistant at CNN. I'm also a documentarian who has won a Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Award for Best College Journalism for my film , "Allies Welcome." The film also premiered at festivals worldwide inculding the largest documentary festival in North America, DOCNYC.
I enjoy writing about gender, the global economy, migration, labor rights, politics, and everything in between. I am passionate about feminism, politics, social justice and activism, international political economy, and documentaries.
I have lived in eight cities in six countries ( Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, France, Australia, and the United States). Currently, I live in New York City.
I hold a Masters of Sciences in Journalism from Columbia University with a specialization in Documentary Filmmaking, a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences in International Relations with first-class honors from the University of New South Wales, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and International Relations from the University of Queensland.
In my free time, you can catch me hanging out with my cat, Molly.
